NAPA is delighted to offer the following 2 webinars

 

 

21 Ways to Connect older people with the Benefits of Nature – 10th September 2020 3.30-4.30pm

 

    • 21 practical ideas/strategies that can be used by recreation therapy and activity staff will be shared along with research based benefits.
    • The benefits of nature and its impact on older people will be discussed in reference to Deci and Ryan’s Self Determination Theory’s three Basic Human Needs (autonomy, competency & relatedness)

The learning outcomes for those who attend include:

  1. Attendees will be able to identify at least 3 new nature based ideas they can use from the list of 21 with their clients in the next month.
    2. Attendees will understand the value of nature based experiences in meeting the basic human needs of seniors in a care environment and be able to share this with their colleagues, clients etc.
  2. Attendees will feel comfortable creatively adapting three or more of the ideas/strategies to meet the varied abilities of the seniors they serve.
  3. Attendees will have a better understanding of how goals (therapeutic & general) can be supported through the use of these nature based ideas.

Phones, Tablets & Photography: Viewing the World Through the Lens of Nature – 23rd September 2020 3.30-4.30pm

    • Explain the benefits of using simple photography as a form of expression and way to connect with nature year round for older people in care.
    • Introduce the View Finder’s Club and ways they can introduce and host it weekly with older people with varying abilities.
    • The benefits of viewing nature through the lens of a phone, tablet or traditional camera will be further supported by the Self Efficacy Theory and the concept of promoting choice.

The learning outcomes for those who attend include:

    • Attendees will be able to plan a 3-4 session View Finder’s Club with 4-6 or more senior clients, or offer this program 1:1.
    • Attendees will be able to explain the Self Efficacy Theory as it relates to the value of using Photography to explore nature year round.
    • Attendees will be able to share at least one of the research based benefits of viewing nature to colleagues, clients and their families.
    • Attendees will have a better understanding of how goals (therapeutic & general) can be supported through the use of simple, nature base photography.
